Down for the Count & Happy Thanksgiving

Hey y'all! Man, whatever this season's flu bug/cold virus is, it's a doozy. I've been down for the count for the last week and a half and besides being sick, it's just SO ANNOYING. I hope you stay healthy, especially this week being the week of Thanksgiving. It crept up so quickly!

We travel out of town tomorrow to visit my husband's family for Christmas at his grandma's house. Sadly, my little hiatus will have to continue since his grandma doesn't have Internet. Four days without Internet will be interesting, for sure, especially since I know how much I rely on it!

I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving wherever you may be and however you are celebrating!

Summer in November

I, for one, am totally flabbergasted that it is already November! Seriously. WHERE. DID. THIS. YEAR. GO?

I started this blog back during the Royal Wedding, 6 months ago! I still feel like this baby blog is only a few weeks old. It's been a fun ride, I'm learning as I go, and I have nothing but respect for all you pro bloggers out there. The way you constantly churn out new, fresh content, serious props.

And since I'm remain in disbelief that it is, in fact, November, here's a fresh drink I saw on Pinterest. It would be perfect for a Signature Drink for a summer wedding. Refreshing. My husband LOVES watermelon and I think he could get on board with this one.

Watermelon & Tequila Mojito Recipe from Girl Cooks World

* 10 mint leaves
* 1/2 of a lime, cut into three wedges
* 2- 3 teaspoons sugar, depending on how sweet you like your drink
* 3 Tablespoons white or silver tequila
* ice cubes
* about 1/2 cup seedless watermelon, blended until liquidized and smooth
* splash of lemon-lime soda or sparkling water
* mint sprig and a slice of lime for garnish (optional)

Halloween Wedding Ideas

This is a gorgeous way to incorporate Halloween in an elegant way. Love the purple and black combination! It goes great with the pumpkins. Be sure to check out the entire shoot on Style Unveiled.

And to those going to Halloween parties (or weddings) this weekend, have a safe and happy weekend!

Halloween Wedding Ideas

I don't know about you, but if I'm being totally honest, I'm not a huge fan of Halloween. I never liked dressing up very much as a kid. I think the only thing I liked about Halloween was all the candy. The good stuff, like Snickers, KitKats, and Twix. None of that cheap Tootsie Roll business (sorry if those are your favorites!).

But since Halloween is literally right around the corner, I thought I'd highlight some fun ways to incorporate Halloween into your wedding.

I saw these chair signs on The Sweetest Occasion and had to share. Be sure to check out the full post for chic Halloween wedding ideas.

Would you get married on Halloween or incorporate it into your decor? Let me know!

Happy Monday!

DIY Week: Rope Words

I saw this project over on Green Wedding Shoes and thought it was so cute! It's kind of the same idea as the string chandeliers, using corn starch and glue. How perfect is this to make for your wedding and then as DIY art in your home?!

Check out the full DIY Tutorial on Green Wedding Shoes.

What are you doing for the weekend? My hubby texted me to pick out a restaurant...he wrote, "Don't worry how expensive." So I'm researching yummy restaurants we haven't tried yet. And I'm wondering what's the special occasion...?! Have a great weekend!!

Happy Friday!

DIY Week: Hand-Painted Mugs

How cute would these be for bridesmaids gifts? Especially for you crafty people and your crafty bridesmaids. I stumbled on this on Pinterest (of course!) and just had to post. Super cute to have unique dishware!

Check out the DIY Tutorial on how to make your own hand-painted mugs.

DIY Week: String Chandeliers

A few months ago I spotted these string chandeliers and was completely intrigued.

They make a modern alternative to tissue poms or paper lanterns and add an accessible element of DIY to any wedding. I think they are also so lovely when contrasted against some greenery, as seen in the inspired shoot in the photo. So pretty!

DIY Week: Yarn-wrapped Bottles

So I don't know about you, but I live on Pinterest. I love searching for simple terms like "headboard" or "escort cards" or "DIY decor" and coming up with all kinds of cool, unique ideas. I came upon these yarn-wrapped bottles and thought they could add a simple DIY touch to a wedding - great for centerpieces and then later repurposed as home decor. I'd totally add a set of billy balls or other hardy plant.

Tuesday Shoesday: Sparkly Louboutins

I'm pretty sure I'd break an ankle or worse if I were to wear these, but to all the ladies who can rock 5 inch heels, I say go for it!

Lavender Escort Card Display

How simple, yet super elegant is this escort card display? Topped with calligraphy emblazoned escort cards, and the presentation is perfection.

Lavender French Macarons

I don't think I knew about Macarons until fairly recently. I studied abroad in France, and have been to Paris a handful of times, but I didn't really know about Laduree until after I moved back to the States. Last summer, I tried my hand at making my own macarons, and surprisingly they turned out pretty well.

The Tartelette Blog has some fabulous macaron recipes which you can check out here. And how perfect would macarons be for favors or in lieu of wedding cake. (Although, I love me some wedding cake!)

Lavender Mason Jars

Between the light in this photo and the simplicity of the mason jars, my heart just swoons. Seriously.

Take me to Provence to sit at a cafe. Or to a little house in the country side and sit in the backyard staring at the lavender fields.

Style Board: French Country Wedding Ideas

If I were to go back and redo my wedding, I think I'd go the French Country route. First of all, I'm totally obsessed with all things French and have a special place for all things French Country. There's just something about lavender and the simplicity of life that just vibes with me.

So naturally, this morning, while I was perusing Pinterest, I couldn't help but look up French Country and lavender. And thus, this French Country Style Board was born. I can't wait to fill up with week with lovely and delicious French Country wedding ideas.

Delicious Endings

I've seen my fair share of useless and lame wedding favors. And I think wedding favors tend to get a bad wrap for being less than exciting. However, if I were to attend a wedding and receive a cake ball as a favor, I would be more than excited! It's actually happened before - great wedding, by the way. And being one for tradition, I couldn't just eat the cake ball during the wedding, but I waited until the car ride home.

It was a delicious ending to a wonderful day.

Want to make your own cake balls? Check out this recipe by The Velveteen Baker.

Have a sweet weekend!

Ruffled Ombre Cake

I spotted these cakes on Pinterest this morning and couldn't resist sharing.

I'm not sure what it is exactly about the ruffled cake, but there's something just so pretty, yet simple about them. I've seen tutorials on how to do it, but I think I'll leave it up to the pros to ruffle up a wedding cake.

And this one is an ombre cake! How cool is that?

What's your favorite type of fancy cake?

Mixed not Matched Bridesmaids Dresses

For our wedding, I totally had the idea that I'd pick a dress color and have my bridesmaids choose their own style of dress. Sadly, in spite of my best efforts to give them a choice, they deferred to me. And my idea of bridesmaids with mixed dresses evaporated. It's okay because they still looked fabulous.

I came across this photo on Green Wedding Shoes, and it's the perfect picture of what I had once envisioned.

What do you you think about mixed not matched bridesmaids dresses?

Tuesday Shoesday: Simple Black Pumps with Flair

How simple are these, but so gorgeous?

Typically, I don't much care for black shoes for a wedding, but these are just lovely. And they would definitely work post-wedding for any occasion requiring shoes with a little extra "something".

And I'm just thinking about how instead of buying brand new wedding shoes, you could do this with an already broken in pair of shoes. Breaking in my wedding shoes was a pain, and I ended up wearing flip flops once the ceremony was over!

Have a fabulous week! Anyone doing anything fun?

Engagement Session: Casual Day

When it comes to style, I'm definitely more casual than anything. The perfect outfit for me includes yoga pants, flip flops, and a comfortable tank. And if I have to go out with my husband, I'll slip into some jeans and a casual top. I'm not really a fashionista, though I'd admire the women who are. Every now and again, I require a short schooling in fashion designers.

But I do watch Project Runway.

This is a great outfit that would work for an engagement session, especially if you're the casual type like me.

Today and tomorrow will be "rest days" of sorts, since my Sunday and Monday will be packed. Sunday, I'm helping style a session (one of the projects I've been working on!). Monday, I head down to Austin for the day. And crazy me decided it would be a good idea to do a turnaround trip!
Casual Day

Comptoir Des Cotonniers oversized cardigan, €85
Abercrombie Fitch embroidered shirt, $24
Acne white linen shirt, $74
Old Navy bootcut jeans, $25
Tory burch flat, $195
LOFT cocktail ring, $20
Oroton cream shawl

What are your plans for the weekend?

Happy Friday!

Engagement Session: Casual Rustic

Personally, I'm not the type to dress up all fancy. I'm definitely more casual. I love this simple look of pairing a bit of a dressy top with skinny jeans and boots.

Engagement Session: Evening Glam

I think Polyvore has become one of my new favorite sites on the web. It's been super fun to think up outfit ideas, and I thought it would be perfect for planning an engagement session outfit. Sometimes it's hard to think of what to wear. And the possibilities are almost endless.

Playing around in Polyvore brought me back to the days when I played with paper dolls as a kid. I used to try on all the different fashions. So fun!

I thought I'd start off with a look that perfect for the fashionista, who loves a little bling and ruffles.

If you had an engagement session, what did you wear?

Seaside Wedding Ideas: Tablescapes

I'm ready for the long weekend, are you? It's been an eventful month already and it's only the second day in September. I have some projects in the works and I'm so excited about them. It's true that everything happens for a reason, and in retrospect, I'm so glad that job did not work out.

It's Friday, hooray! And I found this gorgeous seaside tablescape designed by Alchemy Events. Be sure to check out the entire shoot on their blog!

Seaside Wedding Ideas: Paper

So, it's September. How in the world did that happen. Part of me feels like it should still be the beginning of August. The good news is that the weather will finally start to cool...oh to you know 80 or so. Today's one of those days I really wish I was at the beach.

I love how both of these invitations suites would be perfect for a seaside wedding.

Happy Thursday! And Happy September!

Seaside Wedding Ideas: Engagement Session

If I had ample access to a dock and the sea, I would totally have my photos taken there. In a hot second.

While searching for ideas, I came upon this gorgeous seaside engagement session and just fell in love. It probably doesn't hurt that it was photographed in Portugal!

I just love the light in these, and if you want to see more be sure to hop on over to The Pretty Blog for more prettiness!

Style Board: Seaside Wedding Ideas

I cannot wait until cooler weather. Seriously. It's really quite unsightly to walk outdoors and break an immediate sweat. Alas, the perils of living in Texas. Which got me to thinking about the water, and seaside weddings. I've never been to a beach wedding, but I'd love to!

Enjoy this week's seaside wedding ideas.

Honeymoon Week: Tahiti

I've always wanted to go to Tahiti. It's on our bucket list. Especially since watching Couples Retreat, the resort they stayed at is AMAZING! I think for the ultimate in relaxation and beautiful sights, Tahiti certainly fits the bill. And who could say no to crystal clear blue waters?! It's just so gorgeous!

I'm excited that it's Friday. I don't think we have any plans this weekend, well except for my husband playing flag football, but other than that it should be pretty low key. How will you be spending your weekend?

Have a great weekend!
